About Me
Cinematographer, Visual Storyteller
I'm Saumitra Yadnyopavit, a freelance Cinematographer (DOP) based in Mumbai and Pune. A graduate of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), class of 2018, I approach every frame with the same question - what does this story look like, and how can my frames say more than the words?
My love for filmmaking began in my mid-teens, exploring narratives through short films and non-fiction pieces. Before pursuing cinematography at FTII, I studied Psychology - something that's quietly shaped the way I approach every frame since.
Over the years, I've worked with some remarkable brands - Netflix India, Mahindra, Xiaomi, PNG Jewellers and more - collaborating with directors, agencies, and production houses across Mumbai, Pune and around India. As a Director of Photography, my work spans the full range - feature films and docu-fiction on one end, and ad films and brand films on the other.
All my released projects are up on the site - feel free to take a look.
"As a Psychology student, I seek to explore human emotions and portray them through lensing and lighting, capturing not just what's in front of the camera, but also what it is supposed to emote.
I believe every frame should have a sense of purpose in its movement, its composition, and lighting."
If something here resonates with you, I'd love to have a chat about your project.
